Stół
04:05
|
|||
It sits here all alone but is always there to lean on when I need some time out from the road
Always silent but always proud it takes a hit and it gives it back and wears the marks like drops of rain
You will see it shine
You will see it scratch but underneath stories will remain
You can’t hear it talk
If this were only true
It could talk a library
When settling down for a little while or out for the very last one
While ready to prove you’re right and someone else’s wrong
You can count on it to last and never strike an answer back
You will see it shine
You will see it scratch but underneath stories will remain
You can’t hear it talk
If this were only true
It could talk a library
It seems the quiet type that doesn’t mind being moved around
When new arrivals take their place
But always aware of changing styles to take away its pride of place and send it back to where it came
You will see it shine
You will see it scratch but underneath stories will remain
You can’t hear it talk
If this were only true
It could talk a library

Wake Me Up
03:41
|
|||
I need you as the means to pull through
I need you to restore and make new
Wake me up in the morning and tell me it’s time to rise
And without any warning but the reason you’re giving is sound
I need you to restore and make new
Now you see my belongings and take them and burn them to dust
There’s a moment of anger but it changes to see what I must
In the times when the loneliness comes up you face it and show
That it won’t grab a hold of the darkness and let it all grow
I need you to give back what I give you

Unconditional
04:31
|
|||
Best friends now, just as then
When you were 24 and I was ten
It never mattered to us about the age
Cause even then we were on the same page
His wedding ring that I found in that cup
I asked you if I could have it just as you were breakin' up
You just smiled and said that if any one else
Had asked you that you would have damned them all to hell
And that's how I know that you love me
Cause even when I do things wrong
You always forgive
I used to come to your house all the time
We'd smoke and talk while the kettle worked overtime
Monopoly and Scrabble were our favourite games
You'd never win but you like to play me all the same
I'd build hotels while you went back to Old Kent Road
Do not collect 200, do not pass go
And then you'd struggle for an A or an O
And I would put my X on your triple letter score
And that's how I know that you love me
Cause even when I'm losing
I always win with you
That's unconditional
That's unconditional
That's unconditional love
And I'm sorry that I had to go away
But I think about you every single day
It's not easy but on the other hand
It goes to show that you really understand
And I want you to know that I love you
Cause even though it's different now
I still feel the same
That's unconditional
That's unconditional
That's unconditional love
That's unconditional
That's unconditional
That's unconditional love

Good Goodbye
03:40
|
|||
I recall your eyes
I recall a sniff that doesn’t fool me much at all
Oh I’ll get you back –
Don’t you worry baby I’ll get you back here in
the end:
With a light brown flick –
a light brown curse at ends
you could never fool me much I always did that for myself
you could always count on making outward jokes and little else
you could never fool me much I always did that for myself
you could always count on making outward jokes and little else
I want your arms ‘round my waist
But that’s never quite the same as a good goodbye
You can never leave this place – I’ll see you every day in the autumn wastes
The leaves as brown as your eyes,
With a sparkle and a light that outshines itself
And you’ll out-smile me now

I met you walking down the street
Where I was you and you were me
You said you’d maybe like to see me ‘round
And break new ground
You said your sister is an artiste
With colours set to start a trend
Her canvas seemed to start out black
With brushstrokes red
----------------------------
Don’t think you know
Nothing’s better than it ever was before
Don’t think you know
Nothing’s better than it ever was before
-------------------------
She went out once to buy some thread
To tie up all her loose ends
Her use of yellow was said to have a sense
Of Monet’s dread
She has exhibits ‘round the world
Entitled ‘Green’ with scenes of trees
She told a critic that her medium was brown
But we see blue
---------------------------
---------------------------
She has a complex sense of light
She shadows different shades of white
She did a detail piece of Van Gough’s Starry Night
And painted red
She once started quite a scene
The suited man with apple green
But the apple now is coloured differently
A dark maroon [Davie’s rendition: ‘burgundy’]
---------------------------
---------------------------
I said again, ‘I’ll see you ‘round’
When you asked, ‘what happens next?’
As you walked away I glanced down at your shoes
They’re platform red
And you smiled back sweet and said,
‘Yes, blue really is my scene’
And the answer became clear –
Well, clear to me..

Way Back In
03:26
|
|||
People walking round in the city’s streets with their heads up in the air
Drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes with no certain place to be
You went somewhere to find your back again
Take a photograph it will make it last then you can say where you have been
Changing points of view reassures the senses and gives more purpose to your days
You went somewhere to find your way back again

What Other People Do
03:09
|
|||
I want to take a walk with yourself in tow
I want to do what other people do
To hear the sounds of rustling leaves
As the water ripples right on past
If trees could talk, I’m sure they could tell a lot and give a remedy
But I’m not sure if it would work when the cause is not really clear
There’s never too much when you haven’t got enough of air to breathe
If I had the chances I’d be a Romantic but somehow you never liked that stance
The air has changed the mist to rain which brings us now to being back indoors
No longer clear, no longer near, I take a seat and stare at the TV.
I want to take a walk with yourself in tow
I want to do what other people do
To hear the sounds of rustling leaves
As the water ripples right on past

Can-Do Man
04:46
|
|||
He's a can-do man
He doesn't contemplate disaster
Fate makes its way into every second of the day
And he gives it a smile and a handshake of Understanding
And goes on its way
Feeling lighter than the air
Of course he falls down
He falls down
Hard on the ground
And he picks himself up, himself up again
And he's very fond of telling you
That every day is a miracle
There is no argument to convince him that it's Otherwise
But does he sleep so well at night?
Does he sleep so well at night?
He's a thumbs up man
Opportunity is king
Life has no barriers
Obstacles don't mean a thing
But in the early hours
A nod of understanding
And when the veil falls down
a moment of doubt
Of course he falls down
He falls down
Hard on the ground
And he picks himself up, himself up again
And he's very fond of telling you
that every day is a miracle
There is no argument to convince him that it's otherwise
But does he sleep so well at night?
Does he sleep so well at night?
